¼ Scale Siemens Schuckert DIII scratch built from Ron Weis plans.
Plane is modelled from the very first DIII that was built using the complete round cowl rather than the later model with the base removed.
Plane is a compete ready to fly unit including: Evolution 777 77cc Radial Engine – Purchase price was $2,200 LiFe Battery Packs Spektrum Receiver Servos
Build time was around 8 months and has been a joy to fly for the past 2 years. The model has some light wear.
The fuselage is built up with balsa, stained to colour and sealed with a resin finish. The wings and stab are fabric covered and doped. Lozenge camouflage is hand painted to original specs. All sheet metal is hand made from aluminium except for the cowl and spinner that was purchased from Arizona Aircraft Replicas. Cost of cowl and spinner was $500 Wheels are Dubro hand painted in lozenge. Propeller is a Xoar Axial Laminated.
When I first built the aircraft a NGH 38cc engine was fitted with a dummy radial. Later the Evolution 777 was fitted for a greater scale effect. This aircraft looks and sounds beautiful. It has been a joy to build, own and fly… The evolution Engine gives the model tons of reliable power.
