Up for sale the legendary HP42 English airliner of the 1930s. Obsolete even on the drawing boards (The DC3 was just around the corner!) it nevertheless served all through the 30s flying as far as India on some routes and, famously, never lost a passenger! Described as having a built-in headwind they were VERY slow being only marginally faster than the German airships! With all that wing area they tended to wallow around too which must have been quite uncomfortable for the passengers!
This model should really be in a museum and I admired it hanging up as a static exhibit for 5 years but just HAD to see it in the air and so have flown it several times this last year and today and in the air people describe it as majestic! It's a very docile aeroplane and will cruise around happily at about half throttle. On static tests (with 4s 5000s) I've run it as long as 8 minutes with 15 sec pauses each minute but in the air I haven't flown more than about 4 minutes, so always have plenty in reserve.
This model is in near perfect condition except that one cylinder of one motor has dropped off but this doesn't seem to affect performance (!). This is really a work of art and I asked the original builder to sign and date it inside - one day this will be a masterpiece of aeromodelling excellence! Just imagine making those 36 cylinders or cutting about 3 million ribs (altho' I think he contracted that job to a laser cutter).
I can deliver this free to about 100km, 25c/km thereafter up to about 500 or, of course, you can collect.
Span is 8ft or 2.4m which just fits in my Subaru Outback. The fuselage splits aft of the wing and is secured with 4 bolts.
